Routine Dentistry
Your Regular Dental Check-up
Wouldn’t it be great if your teeth simply looked after themselves? The reality is that issues like tooth decay can stay invisible until it’s too late and an intervention is needed. Long periods without a routine check-up can jeopardise the future of your oral health – and cost more in the long run.
ConfiDent Surgeries is here to support your routine, make sure everything is healthy in your mouth, and keep your teeth strong and healthy for as long as possible:
- Thorough checking for signs of decay, gum disease or dental weakness
- Advice on optimum dental care routine
- Discussing any concerns
Broken teeth
Accidents happen. If you have chipped or broken a tooth, either through sport or another cause, book an appointment as soon as possible.
We will advise on how to care for your mouth and offer the best way to repair the damage.
Fillings
If tooth decay has already begun, the quicker it is discovered the better. Unfortunately, a filling is often the only way to stop the rot. Our dentists will explain any issues in your check-up appointment, and advise on which type of filling is most suitable.
The sooner your tooth is filled the longer it will last. And don’t worry. We use an excellent local anaesthetic to make this as painless and easy as possible for you.
Root Canal
An infected tooth is painful and sensitive. That’s because it causes inflammation and softens the pulp (the centre of the tooth) and also the roots. It may even result in an abscess, which could result in you losing the tooth.
In a root canal procedure we remove the pulp, clean out the surfaces of the tooth, drain any infection and then seal it all tight. All of this is done under a strong anaesthetic, and you’ll soon be feeling much better.
Scale and Polish
A ‘scale and polish’ is an absolute thorough cleaning of your teeth followed by a polish to restore their natural sheen. Using specialist tools for different areas of your mouth, your dentist will remove tartar.
This hard substance gradually builds up in layers, and is especially difficult to remove from your gumline and the narrow spaces between your teeth. Whilst regular brushing and flossing is essential for good oral health, a scale and polish prevents a build-up of both plaque and tartar that brushing cannot shift – helping to prevent gum disease and decay.

FAQS
This is when your gums are red, sore and swollen – and even bleeding. It is caused by a build up of sticky ‘plaque’ on your teeth. Plaque contains bacteria. If you don’t remove it regularly with brushing it builds up leading to the rotting of your teeth and bad breath.
Avoid sweet and acidic foods, especially between meals, and brush carefully, thoroughly and regularly.
It’s definitely advised. Regular flossing or using an interdental appliance removes plaque and pieces of food from between your teeth. All of this prevents plaque
Even if your tooth isn’t sensitive at first, it is more likely to decay or become infected and painful if it isn’t repaired. If this happens, you could lose it altogether.
No – we use an excellent anaesthetic and you will hardly be aware that it is happening.
Fillings need to be strong and are often made from silver amalgam. At ConfiDent Surgeries we can also use cosmetic composite fillings. These cost more but can be made to match your current teeth, making them almost invisible and keeping you feeling confident in your smile.
No – we use an excellent anaesthetic and it should feel no different to a regular filling.
You can care for your tooth as usual. We advise that you reduce sugary snacks and acidic food, and clean your teeth regularly.
Occasionally a tooth can be extracted. However, it is best to keep as many of your natural teeth as possible for as long as possible!
Plaque is a sticky substance on your teeth. It contains bacteria and becomes acidic when it reacts with the sugar in our food. Over time it builds up to become ‘tartar’. Tartar is solid and hard to remove, and can lead to irreversible tooth decay.
A scale and polish should not hurt. However, you will feel the sensation of scraping, and also vibrations from the brushes. Please tell your dentist if you are nervous about the procedure.
The extent of the treatment will depend on each patient; prices are quoted on an individual basis.
This will vary between patients and your dentist will advise you. However, we recommend that a scale and polish is done prior to an orthodontic or cosmetic procedure.
